Class Officers
The
fundamental role of class officers is to advance the
goals and purposes of the Academy and the General
Alumni/ae Association (GAA) with a spirit of cooperation
and goodwill. Class officers play an essential role
in communications between the Academy and its alumni/ae
and amongst the members of a class.
Each class role is unique, but all share some common
general duties. Follow the links
below for a brief description of each class volunteer
role, or see the volunteer
manuals for more detailed descriptions.

Class
President
The class president provides leadership, support,
and encouragement to the other officers and members
of the class. The president appoints other officers
and is responsible for the overall design and implementation
of class projects, with assistance from the vice president.
The president is responsible for writing at least
one letter a year to the class, or delegating that
responsibilty to the vice president.
Class Vice
President
The role of the vice president varies greatly from
class to class, but all vice presidents are expected
to assist the class president and to assume the president’s
duties whenever the president is unable to perform
them.
Class
Correspondent
The class correspondent is one of the most visible
of all alumni/ae volunteers and plays a vital role
in helping classmates maintain a lifelong affiliation
with the Academy. His or her first responsibility
is to gather class news and to prepare class notes
columns for The Exeter Bulletin four times
a year.
Class
Agent(s)
Class agents are responsible
for developing class fundraising strategies and soliciting
their classmates for the Annual Giving Fund. Class
agents work closely with each other (if more than
one) and Exeter’s annual giving office in order
to help the class meet its goals.
Class Page
Editor
Each class web page on the Academy’s
alumni/ae website is an important community-building
tool. The class page editor works with other class
leaders and the alumni/ae office to maintain and develop
the page, keeping it up-to-date and of interest to
the class.
Planned
Giving Chair
The planned giving chair, which is appointed
at the 20th reunion and every five years thereafter,
plays an important role in communicating Exeter's
overall and long-term financial needs to the class
and in soliciting major planned gifts. The planned
giving chair works closely with the staff of the major
gifts office at the Academy.
Reunion
Volunteers
Every five years, each class plans a reunion on campus.
This planning effort involves a number of volunteers
who work closely with class officers. See the Reunion
Leadership Handbook for details.
Class
Council
Between reunions, class officers may choose
to form what has traditionally been called a “class
council” made up of non-reunion officers and
other invited volunteers, and is chaired by the class
president. The role of the class council varies from
class to class, but is often helpful in maintaining
class spirit, identifying new volunteers and effecting
smooth transitions between reunion leadership groups.
