Call
for Awards Nominations
The awards committee of the Exeter trustees meets
each winter to select the recipients of the Academy’s
two highest alumni/ae honors, the Founder’s Day
Award and the John Phillips Award. The committee seeks
nominations on a rolling basis for these awards.
The Founder’s Day Award is
given to an alumnus, alumna, faculty emeritus or
emerita, retired staff member, parent or friend
who has demonstrated exceptional service to the
Academy. The service must be extraordinary—beyond
what is regularly contributed by others doing similar
service—and the nominee must still be living
at the time of nomination. Duration of service
may be of any length, but should probably be of
five years or more. The recipient may receive the
award only once and should not have previously
received the John Phillips Award.
The John Phillips Award is given
to an alumnus or alumna of the Academy, still living
at the time of nomination, whose life demonstrates
John Phillips’ ideal of goodness and knowledge
united in noble character and usefulness to mankind.
The nominee should have contributed significantly
to the welfare of community, country or humanity,
beyond any volunteer service to the Academy.
Nomination letters detailing how the nominee meets
each award criterion and, in the case of the John
Phillips Award, any supporting documents, news
articles, or other material should be sent to Harold
Brown Jr. ’74, director of alumni/ae affairs,
Phillips Exeter Academy, 20 Main Street, Exeter,
NH, 03833; email: hbrown@exeter.edu.
