The Annual Giving Fund Supports Exeter People
The Annual Giving Fund gives Exeter the financial resources and flexibility to develop and sustain programs that make it a truly exceptional place to teach and learn. Because it creates opportunities for Exeter students to pursue all kinds of excellence in the company of outstanding teachers and peers, the fund has a direct bearing on Exeter’s ability to be the school of choice for top candidates.

Approximately 57 percent of Exeter's annual budget is devoted to Exeter people, in the form of salaries and benefits. In addition, Exeter awards a substantial amount of student financial aid each year: $12 million in 2007–08. Just a few of the many people Exeter has been fortunate to attract to its campus are featured below and in a multimedia presentation.

"I chose to read Plautus in Latin, and to spend a year in Italy."

Alison was inspired to study Latin when she took a course on the history of Colonial America and decided to emulate the founding fathers. She loves the language and finds Plautus' "Menaechme" laugh-out-loud funny. During 2006-07, Alison forged close bonds with her Italian host family, which delighted in demonstrating the opposite table manners to those described in the book of Italian etiquette she'd brought with her.

Art 444: Advanced Studio Art (2006)
Proctor & Student Listener, Ewald
ESSO
Art Club
Student Council Dorm Rep
REL 420: Intro to Philosophy with Mr. Vorkink

"I chose to see the world around me by painting it."

Painting is a long-held interest, but JC's experience in Art 444 as an upper did much to fuel that flame. JC particularly appreciated the Harkness approach to art, which combined the support of discussion and critique, and diversity of opinion with the freedom to pursue what interests him most. Painting, he says, shows us what we tend take for granted, such as the particular curve of a cheek or the range of colors in somebody's hair.

The girls will spend the winter 2008 term in Ireland as part of Exeter's program at Ballytobin, a Camphill community for the severely disabled run by Exonian Patrick Lydon '68 and his wife.
