Stan Phelps '52 is one of the nation's leading experts on the restructuring of financially distressed companies, and also a leading expert on corporate "junk" bonds and other higher-risk financing vehicles. Mr. Phelps is chairman of several corporations including S.N. Phelps & Co. and Clear Springs Land Company LLC. He was president and CIO of US Life Advisors and US Life Income Fund from 1972 to 1974; head of the bond department at Drexel, Harriman and Ripley from 1970 to 1972; head of bond sales at F.S. Smithers & Co. from 1967 to 1970; and head of restructuring at Citibank N.A. from 1960 to 1966.
A strong believer in giving back to others, Mr. Phelps is a devoted supporter of a number of educational and religious organizations. At Exeter, he is an active volunteer for the class of 1952, and the benefactor of important projects such as the Science Center and the Phelps Scholar-Athlete program.
He and his wife, Betsy, live in Greenwich, CT. They have two grown children, George and Kate, and three grandchildren, Max, Garrett and Ford.
