Harry
Dodson '70 is a landscape architect with over twenty
years of experience in the field of land use planning
and design. He founded Dodson
Associates in 1986 in Ashfield, Massachusetts.
Since then, the firm has established an international
reputation in the fields of landscape preservation,
town planning, visual assessment, site design,
regional planning and limited development.
Harry Dodson is co-author of the nationally acclaimed
books Dealing with Change in the Connecticut
Valley, Rural by Design, and the Massachusetts
Landscape Inventory. He has lectured throughout
the US, Canada, and Europe and is a recipient of
a Merit Award from the American Society of Landscape
Architects, a Historic Preservation Award from
the National Trust for Historic Preservation, a
Merit Award from the Boston Society of Landscape
Architects and a Commendation for Design Excellence
from the Copley Square International Design Competition.
He also received a Planning Award from the New
England Chapter of the American Planning Association,
a Boston Visions Competition Award from the Boston
Society of Architects and a Commendation for Design
Excellence from the Spectacle Island Competition.
Harry Dodson is a founding member of the Franklin
Land Trust and has assisted the trust with many
of its successful open space preservation. He is
a 1974 graduate of Harvard College and a 1980 graduate
of the Harvard Graduate School of Design with a
masters degree in landscape architecture. Before
founding Dodson Associates, Harry was chief landscape
architect for six years with the Massachusetts
Department of Environmental Management.
